ABOUT SOUTHERN OCEAN MARINE Southern Ocean Marine Limited is a New Zealand company based in Tauranga, on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island with easy access to the sheltered waters of Tauranga Harbour.
Co-director, Greg McNabb, has been building both sail and power boats in Tauranga since 1985 and established the company in 1996. Fellow director Greg Prescott joined him in 2000.
We pride ourselves on the quality of the construction of our yachts and launches and the understanding of our customer's needs and expectations.
Southern Ocean Marine is a growing company and employs a team of 50 talented and enthusiastic boat builders, laminators, painters and apprentices.
Our facilities include a 25000 sq ft workshop with 5000 kg gantry, 4000 sq ft joinery bay and 3000 sq ft of office space.
Southern Ocean Marine is confident in constructing the ultimate in custom-made, composite and timber sailing and power boats from 40 ft to 100 ft plus. This confidence is enhanced by a team of committed boat builders - some with over 30 years experience in the New Zealand marine industry.
The company's team of skilled boat builders is familiar with every facet of boat building including the design and installation of systems and fit out. Our joinery department produces a premium quality product in solid and light weight (Nomex) timber interiors.
Owing to composite materials being our primary construction medium we have a sound understanding of the latest developments in this ever advancing industry.
Our computer software is kept current to marine industry standards.
Southern Ocean Marine primarily constructs boats for the export market and has become an international leader in boat construction.

Greg McNabb and Greg Prescott
It could be said that Greg McNabb served his apprenticeship from the day he was born and has seen the industry evolve from timber to high-tech. After an apprenticeship and twelve years experience with one of the most respected boat building companies in New Zealand, Donald Boat builders, Greg was ready to launch into a business of his own. Southern Ocean Marine was formed in 1996 and the business grew rapidly...
In the spring of 2000, co-director, Greg Prescott joined the company and the dynamic partnership has gone from strength to strength.
Greg Prescott has worked in many facets of the marine industry. Setting out in sail making and mast and rig building, his love of the industry eventually lead him into becoming a professional yachtsman. It was then that he met and worked for the owner of the boat he subsequently built - "Nicorette" - an 80 ft maxi yacht. It is this "hands on" knowledge of all facets of the marine industry that has added immeasurable value to the partnership.
The company and its team of committed boat builders have earned an international reputation for excellence, which has placed them at the forefront of the international boat building industry.
